It's a lot...

Welcome back!

The December Special Town Meeting is fast approaching, most of the leaves have fallen, Thanksgiving is imminent, and the day after Thanksgiving is still a school holiday in Sudbury. At least for now!

Plan to Attend Sudbury Town Meeting Dec. 1

NEWS
By The League of Women Voters of Sudbury

The Select Board has called a special town meeting Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School auditorium, 390 Lincoln Road. At last May’s town meeting, a warrant article was approved that changed the start time of town meetings from 7:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Nine articles will be voted on at the special town meeting. Two articles covering funding for replacement and repair of the roof systems at Haynes and Nixon elementary schools were the original reason for the meeting. Town departments have added six additional warrant articles, and there is also a citizens’ petition article. The warrant is available on the Town website, and copies will be mailed to every household.

Economic Report Highlights Soaring Sudbury Home Prices, High Tax Bills, and Key Demographic Shifts

The latest “Economic Profile 2025” for the Greater MetroWest (GMW) region, released by the MetroWest Economic Research Center (MERC) at Framingham State University, offers a detailed look at the local economy, with several key takeaways for Sudbury residents. The report confirms that the region continues to experience both rapid appreciation in housing costs and notable demographic shifts.

The State of the Greater MetroWest Economy will be presented at a November 19 Lunch and Learn event hosted by the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. The meeting is open to all, and registration is required. Seats are limited, so prompt registration is recommended.

Some of the key insights highlight important trends affecting residents of all ages.

Sewataro Management Selection Likely Turned Away Higher Revenue for Town of Sudbury

The Sudbury Select Board, at its Sept. 9 meeting, instructed Town Manager Andy Sheehan to review the Town’s current agreement with a private camp operator at Camp Sewataro and return to the board with options, information, and recommendations for how to proceed in the future.

In reviewing the current contract and the request-for-proposals (RFP) responses that preceded it, Sudbury Weekly found the Town of Sudbury’s evaluation of the price proposals was incomplete, inconsistent, and ultimately did not correlate to what has played out in the ensuing years.

Tri-District Committee Decides Not to Decide Anything… Yet

NEWS
By Kevin LaHaise

A highly anticipated joint meeting of the Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) School Committee, Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School School Committee (LSSC) and Lincoln Public Schools (LPSSC) School Committee ended where it began on November 13 — with no decisions made by any of the three committees.

The tri-district meeting was scheduled to push towards some sort of calendar alignment following months of committee and subcommittee work. After roughly two hours of discussion, the three committees appeared to be moving away from the original intent of aligning school calendars.

When the days get shorter and darker, many people feel more tired, unmotivated, or down. For some, this is more than just the “winter blues.” It can be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) – a type of depression that appears in the darker months and eases in spring.

Parting Thoughts

Winter is fast approaching, and the Town of Sudbury announced more details about the 2025 Holiday Village. It looks to be bigger and better than ever. Last year’s event attracted large crowds and a diverse lineup of vendors and activities. But this year’s event is kicking it up a notch, and it’s all headquartered at the new Fairbank Community Center. This marks the first major community event to be hosted in the new space… and it’s an opportunity to scope out the recently renovated Atkinson Pool. Mark your calendars!

There’s also a bonus event for anyone who likes graffiti decorating during the holidays: the Park and Rec department is hosting a “Deck the Rec” event to decorate the hallway windows before the big event. No word yet on if the Town offices will host a “Sin in the Flynn” event before Halloween next year. But who’s holding out hope that the Sudbury Foundation hosts a “Get Strange In the Grange” event?
