Sudbury Seeks Climate Leader Designation, Select Board Adopts New Zero Emission Policy

NEWS
By Kevin LaHaise
In a move to align the town’s fleet with its ambitious climate goals, the Sudbury Select Board voted unanimously last week to adopt a new “Zero-Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) First Policy.” The decision marks a significant update to the town’s approach to transportation, replacing a decade-old “Fuel Efficient Vehicle Policy” from 2012. The new mandate ensures that as Sudbury’s light-duty passenger vehicles reach the end of their lifespans, all-electric or hybrid alternatives will be the first priority for replacement, when feasible.

For those who weren’t lucky enough to see a live performance, Sudbury TV has you covered. They recently posted their recording to their on-demand channel.

Victor Garofalo has become a fixture at Park and Recreation Commission meetings over the last year. Sudbury’s Assistant Town Manager and Finance Director is involved in multiple capital projects for the Park and Recreation Department, including improvements to the SMILE playground at Haskell Field. He has also spent much of the last year producing financial reports spanning many Town departments that increase transparency and provide additional context for residents.
While many projects were discussed during the Monday, March 23 meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission, Garofalo first presented his overview of the budget and finances of the department. It’s the most detailed view of Park and Recreation revenues and expenses that has been presented in recent years.

As the town of Sudbury enters a landmark year, the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce and a dedicated team of volunteers are calling for community support to ensure this year’s July 4th Parade is the most memorable yet.
The 2026 parade carries more significance than usual, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. For Sudbury, a town whose history is woven into the fabric of the nation’s founding, the event serves as a centerpiece for the Sudbury 250 celebrations.
