Park and Rec Starts to Prioritize Field Projects

By Kevin LaHaise
Following the June 2 presentation of a draft Fields Needs Assessment, the Park and Recreation Commission met on Monday, June 9 to discuss the findings and begin the process of planning and sequencing future projects.
While the discussion was wide-ranging, it became apparent that projects at Broadacres Farm/Featherland Park and Feeley Field would be high priorities for the commissioners moving forward.
Breaking Ground On A New Garden at Sudbury’s Heritage Park

Description of Intended Project: Design and install a garden in Sudbury’s Heritage Park to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Sudbury militiamen participated in the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, where they were attacked by British Army Troops returning to Boston. The Sudbury Garden Club would like to plan and install this garden to honor the history and our community. Sudbury has the distinction of having the postal zip code of 01776.

I Want to Break Free

By Rev. Eric Wolf
What a Drag
In a moment of tension at the height of the AIDS epidemic in 1985, Freddie Mercury wrote the anthemic I Want to Break Free about his determination to live as his own complicated self.
Nah, I’m kidding.
That’s what I thought too, until I searched for the lyrics and discovered that I Want to Break Free was written by a bassist of all people, Queen’s John Deacon. Despite its ignominious authorship, it really is about breaking free, but it’s an anthem celebrating cultural and personal liberation found in the women’s liberation movement, but written from a male perspective.
